The Hidden, Shocking Truth about Sugar
Tue, March 05, 2013
This article originally appeared on my husband’s website at: www.DrLindsey.com. This was written in conjunction with Lindsey’s appearance on “The View” on March 5th 2013, on which he was talking about sugar and why it is bad for us. It is a great article and contains information that I preach about all the time being a mom and a nutritionist… Sugar is a tough topic, as it is everywhere and in everything and its effects are far reaching and detrimental to our health in so many ways… Read on and educate yourselves…
The Hidden, Shocking Truth about Sugar
Can you believe that the average American consumes as much as 150 to 180 pounds of sugar per year? That is twice as much as we did 100 years ago, which is like drinking over 53 gallons of soda per year! At...

1. Would you believe that simple face masks that you can make at home can easily have over 200 times the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) of the $300 jar of anti-aging, “antioxidant” moisturizer that you purchase at a high-end retail store?!
a. Bring on the Beauty Berry (Acai) – We’ve all heard the success stories of Acai working from the inside out – but what about applied topically? Simply mix Acai Berry Juice with Bentonite Clay, which you can purchase at any drugstore, and apply to the face like a mask. Leave it on the skin until it dries… about 10 or 15 minutes. The bentonite clay will absorb up to 40 times its weight in toxins and extract any black heads, whiteheads or impurities from your face while the antioxidants in the Acai, with over 3,000...

Normally, I don’t recommend “weight loss” supplements, especially weight loss supplements that claim “easy weight loss” or “fast weight loss”… everyone is so jaded about this type of product… but the Green Coffee Bean has truly amazed me.
What has the media and the scientific community so excited about Green Coffee Bean Extract is that people don’t have to do anything different when taking this food supplement, they don’t need to exercise, they don’t need to diet, they just appear to drop pounds!
The most recent study on Green Coffee Bean published in the Diabetes, Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity journal followed a group of 16 adults who supplemented with Green Coffee Extract for 12 weeks. Over the course of the study, the subjects lost an average of 17 pounds...

Wed, April 04, 2012
I've been wanting to write a blog on the health benefits of the alkaline diet and how important it is to create optimal health in our bodies... My husband naturopathic doctor Lindsey Duncan just published an article on the same topic in "Natural Solutions" magazine, and rather than re-inventing the wheel, I've decided to cut and paste his well-written, wonderful and informative article directly in to my blog. The Alkaline Diet is not really a "diet", but it is a long term style of eating healthy that offers maximum health benefits. As a family, we all try and eat this way every day... more alkaline foods than acid. This insures strong, healthy bones, clear skin, digestive and eliminative health, a strong immune system, and also works as an amazing anti-ageing...

Do your body a favor and follow these tips to maintain your weight.
Power Up with Proteins
Since protein has a high thermic effect, your body will burn more calories to digest it. Score! When it comes to protein, Amanda Carlson-Phillips, vice president of nutrition and research for Core Performance, recommends including a lean protein source in every meal.
"Eating five to six mini meals per day and including a lean protein source such as low-fat cheese, beans, chicken, fish, or peanut butter on every plate is a great way to rev your metabolism and keep you feeling energized and fueled all day long,".
If You're Not Already, Become a Fan of Green Tea
Stay away from sodas, alcohol, and calorie-laden beverages. Not only will they leave you feeling bloated and...

Well, 2012 is here and as we all commit to various goals and New Year resolutions, a big one on my list is keeping myself and my family healthy and well. Of course January is the cold and flu season and we are all trying to get a leg up on all of those nasty cold and flu viruses being passed around so aggressively through coughing, sneezing and touch. I cringe going into grocery stores as I reach for the sanitizer wipes and douse my shopping cart handles like I’m evading the plague. In malls I precariously balance my way up the escalator in my clunky-heeled boots, as I refuse to touch the germ-infested, community rubber railing. On planes, I want to hold my breath as I sit next to a person with the sniffles and a box of Kleenex, trapped next to him or her for 3...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! It’s that time of year again where we are allowed and even encouraged to over-indulge with family and friends! Counting our blessings and celebrating our loved ones is centered around the social bond of making delicious, fresh and wholesome food prepared with the best ingredients and a large dose of LOVE! Comfort food is the “name of the game”… Turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, large quantities of gravy with high calorie sides such as macaroni and cheese, broccoli cheese casserole, various types of bread, biscuits or rolls, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and more! Oh, and this is not even including high calorie liquid indulgence, including everything from high-calorie alcoholic mixed drinks to egg nog… Tis’ the season! Thanksgiving is...

In my last blog, I left off after my near death experience following a catastrophic accident on the set of “Back to the Future Part II” in 1989. After numerous reconstructive surgeries to my face and arm, I went to see Dr. Lindsey Duncan, naturopathic doctor and celebrity nutritionist and owner and founder of Home Nutrition Clinic in Santa Monica, California. At that point, I had been through 2 years of exhausting and debilitating reconstructive surgeries, with the final surgery lasting 8 hours long, and involving so much blood loss that I had to give 3 pints of my own blood over several months prior to the surgery, and finally, having my jaw wired shut for 6 weeks afterward.
I landed on Lindsey Duncan's clinic doorstep in 1991 exhausted and chronically...

Fri, September 23, 2011
In 1985, I made a transition from martial arts and kickboxing to a full time stunt career! In 1982, I had moved from Pensacola, Florida to Los Angeles, California for several reasons. One, my sanctioning body, the WKA (World Karate Association) based out of Westminster, CA was working hard to promote me as a fighter. They were getting me matches on the west coast and it was better if I was geographically closer to the action. Secondly, Gerry Blanck, my long time sensei, coach and sparring partner moved out to Los Angeles after being contacted by an agent to try and break in to the movie business. He encouraged me to come out as well, pointing out that there were few women in martial art action films, and there was great opportunity. I loved Los Angeles and...

Hi everyone! I'm taking a quick break from telling my story to share something really cool with all of you.
Recently, I got the opportunity to speak with Fab Over Fifty, an amazing site for women over 50. I was so excited to talk to them because I could honestly spend hours on their site. I particularly like browsing the "Date My Single Kid" section because it is so much fun to see the descriptions mothers write for their single children. When you get a chance, I highly recommend taking some time to browse through the site!
I spoke to them about my stuntwoman career, how I got started in the industry and why nutrition is such a key part of my success as a stuntwoman. Click here to see my article or click on the photo below.
How Martial Arts Changed My Life
Wed, September 07, 2011
In my last post, I discussed my insecurities as a girl and how growing up with five brothers made me feel invisible.
The turning point for my self-esteem was when I took a free karate class after school one day on a dare from my best friend Suzanne. We both thought that the 20-year-old karate instructor was really cute.
During that class something clicked inside me and I discovered a great love for the fighting arts. I found a freedom and a power in the training that made me sit up and take notice.
Looking back now, I believe Yoshukai (a Japanese style of karate) completely changed my life. You always hear stories of how the martial arts teach children discipline, respect, integrity and confidence and it does! .
As I gained confidence in my physical...

I have a special place in my heart for helping others, and I feel like my own life lessons have afforded me the opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of young girls and women to reach for the stars, to dream, and to never give up!
Reaching this point in my own life took many, many years and a lot of painful lessons. I’m going to post my story here in four pieces: Growing up as one of the boys, Becoming a Martial Arts Student, My Entry into Hollywood and Nutrition.
I grew up in a family of five active, strong brothers, a very wonderful but chauvinistic dad, and a sweet, quiet mother that aspired to please others but was not always heard. As the only girl, I was lost in the shuffle most of the time, buried under loud, testosterone-filled...

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m so excited to announce that my website was just completed and this marks my first official blog post!
I have two main goals in starting this blog: 1) I want to connect with people on a very real level to dispel the rumors that being healthy is about being perfect and 2) I want to encourage people and empower them to take control of their health.
Health, nutrition, and fitness are cornerstones of my life and I hope that my journey, with all of its bumps, failures and successes - from an insecure girl to a world-class kickboxing champion and Hollywood stuntwoman - will encourage everyone to reach for more in life. Even if the road is bumpy and we sometimes take wrong turns, the lessons learned on the journey make it all...
